PROGRAM PROCEDURES:

 

  1. Review after school program information below.  

  2. Sign your child up for the program(s) of your choice on the Sign Up Genius at http://spring2020.gsespta.org. Sign up starts on Sunday, Dec 15, at 7:00pm, and goes through Sunday, Dec 22, at midnight. Please only sign up for the club(s) in which your child will definitely participate; if you are unsure, please sign up on the wait list for that club.

  3. After sign up closes, you will be sent the next steps and forms for enrollment and payment. Forms, payment, and enrollment will be different for each program. ALL FORMS and PAYMENTS ARE DUE BY Wednesday, Jan 8, regardless of when the club begins. 

  4. Record your program(s) dates on your calendar!  Programs meet once a week, after school at GSES, starting at 2:30. End times vary by program. Clubs will not meet on holidays or when school is cancelled.

  5. Remind your child when his/her class takes place. A reminder will also be given daily at school and teachers will have a list for each program.

ART

 

Instructor: Margo Alford

 

Students will experience and explore compositions in a myriad of art styles.  Works of art will be created in a wide range of mixed media giving children the opportunity to discover the properties of tempera, ink, acrylic, watercolor and much, much more as they create something new each week.  Basic fundamentals and technique instructions are incorporated into each lesson. Each session (1,2, and 3) will be different, but there is no difference between the Tues/Wed classes.

DANCE WITH AEROBICS

Students will have a fun time dancing with aerobics as they boost their self-esteem and step movement!!  Each one-hour session incorporates dance moves with an aerobic flair.   Participants will boost their stamina, moods, and self-esteem.  The class is an excellent way to get up and start moving!!

FLAG FOOTBALL

Flag football is a version of American football where the basic rules of the game are like those of the mainstream game but instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag from the ball carrier. The technique will allow students to move quickly and have a better understanding of strategy skills.

FLL Junior

 

Instructor: Huntsville Steam Works

 

It’s never too early to discover STEM. FIRST LEGO League Jr. is designed to introduce STEM concepts to kids ages 6 to 10 while exciting them through LEGO!  WeDo Robotics I is a prerequisite for this club.

 

Guided by adult coaches and FIRST LEGO League Jr. Core Values, students build models using LEGO® Education WeDo and create Show Me posters to present what they learned. The program focuses on building interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through a real-world challenge – to be solved by research, critical thinking, and imagination. This year's challenge: BOOMTOWN BUILD 

 

Note that the FLL Jr. Team is expected to participate in an Expo on April 4th at the VBC.

GOTCHA BASKETBALL

Students will engage in the classic game of “Gotcha”, increasing skill level with free throws, three pointers and lay-up shots.  The aggression needed to get your ball allows student to work on quick feet and to hustle for the ball.  This technique will allow you to see growth in many different skills needed to play basketball.

KARATE

 

Alexander’s Martial Arts in Hampton Cove and GSES have a six-week course that meets once a week after school on campus. It covers six separate personal development topics in a safe, fun, and exciting environment. Our program uses the mechanics of martial arts as a tool to present the life skills of: focus, confidence, respect, discipline, and goal setting to children.

Lucky Dice Cafe is proud to support the Pokemon Club at Goldsmith-Schiffman. This club will focus on learning the game as well as giving kids a chance to build friendships. This intermediate level robotics club is intended for students in 3rd-5th grade. This is our non-competition, casual robotics club. Students will learn about robotics using LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Core Set. This STEM program engages students by providing the resources to design, build, and program their creations while helping them develop essential skills such as creativity, critical-thinking, collaboration, and communication.

ROBOTICS, WeDo II (K-2nd)

This robotics club is intended for students in grades K-2nd that are just beginning to learn WeDo or have already participated in our fall WeDo Club. This is a non-competition, casual robotics club for young learners. Students will learn about robotics one hour weekly using LEGO WeDo Robotics. This club will ignite students’ curiosity, while enhancing their skills in science, engineering, technology, and coding with all new builds.

Aspiring paleontologists in grades K-2 will learn all about the mighty dinosaurs that once ruled the earth! Kids will learn about several prehistoric eras and engage in a number of activities designed to embrace the wonder many young children have with dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts. Students can expect to engage in activities such as a fossil dig, building a laser cut dinosaur model, and even learning some rudimentary research skills.

THEATER (Fantasy Playhouse)

 

FPCT after-school programs are modifications of our general acting curriculum. The classes focus on developing the Actor’s Tool Box (Body, Voice, Mind, and Imagination) that inspire creativity and build self-confidence. For seven weeks, students will be divided into age appropriate classes and meet after school one day a week for an hour. We will explore elements of theatre that are developmentally appropriate and engaging. On the final day of class, students will apply their skills in an informal sharing for family and friends. FPCT presents each student with a Certificate of Achievement at the end of each session.

Roller coasters, ferris wheels, and bumper cars... oh my! In this club, students in grades 3-5 will learn about the physical science concepts that make some of your favorite theme park attractions safe and fun. Concepts such as gravity, energy, and momentum, will be explored with hands-on activities, games, and computer models.

Students will learn the strength and power of quick explosive movements.  Workouts will consist of a balance of cardio, strength training and plyometrics.  Volleyball is a full-body workout.  Your arms, chest, and shoulders are involved in serving, bumping and spiking the ball
