How could an Invisibility Cloak work if it were based on science instead of magic? Would you like to make your own wand and learn a few magic (well, Latin) words? Students in this club will learn all about the art and science reflected in the popular series of books by J.K. Rowling!

BRICKS 4 KIDZ LEGOS

The Bricks 4 Kidz motto is: “We Learn, We Build, We Play with…LEGO® bricks.”  So for one hour each week your child will have the opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time using LEGO® bricks.  This is a hands-on class where students build educational motorized models using techniques needed for Robotics. Choose from 3 different sessions:

1. Mission to Space (K-1st): Space, often called “the last frontier”, has inspired scientists, star-gazers and adventurers for generations. Get inspired to go on your own adventure and join us on a Mission 2 Space! Discover some incredible structures at Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39, travel the surface of the moon on a lunar rover, and explore Mars onboard the “Curiosity”. Our tour would not be complete without a visit to the International Space Station. We’ll provide the bricks; all you need to bring for this adventure is your imagination!

2. Interesting Inventions (K-5th): Most objects we use on a daily basis were invented by someone. Find out the origins of things like the hand mixer, windshield wipers and conveyor belts. During this unit, students will discuss the difference between an invention and a discovery, learn how inventions solve problems, and find out how inventors get their ideas patented. Each week, students are encouraged to think of what they could invent, or improvements they could make to an existing object to solve a problem. So many things we use each day are someone’s invention. Introduce your student to the world of ideas, creativity, inventions and patents. We will construct different familiar objects each week such as a hand mixer, windshield wipers and a conveyor belt. Each model is motorized for maximum movement and fascination! Start creating!

3. Gizmos & Gadgets (K-5th): Students love our interactive Bricks 4 Kidz models.  This unit is all about the fun of doing something with what you've built.  From a spinning top to a spinning art model, (comma) kids will love playing with their creations! But don't worry, we sneak in lots of learning, too, like understanding probability in the "3(dash)in-a-row" game model and learning about friction and symmetry with the spinning top lesson.
