Students will experience and explore compositions in a myriad of art styles.  Works of art will be created in a wide range of mixed media giving children the opportunity to discover the properties of tempera, ink, acrylic, watercolor and much, much more as they create something new each week.  Basic fundamentals and technique instructions are incorporated into each lesson. Each session is 4 classes. All sessions contain different material.

* Who: K-5th Graders

* Where: Art Room

BRICKS 4 KIDZ LEGOS

The Bricks 4 Kidz motto is: “We Learn, We Build, We Play with…LEGO® bricks.”  So for one hour each week your child will have the opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time using LEGO® bricks.  This is a hands-on class where students build educational motorized models using techniques needed for Robotics. Choose from 3 different sessions:

1. Energy is Everywhere(K-1st): Energy is essential to almost everything we do, from the lights in our homes and classrooms to the gasoline that fuels our cars. Introduce your students to the world of energy in all its amazing forms. This session explores many sources of energy from wind and solar power to biofuel and fossil fuel. Students will define terms like renewable, landfill, greenhouse effect and generator and build moving models of just some of the awesome ways we power our world.

2. Exploring the Everglades(K-5th): Build an alligator with a mouth that opens and closes, an airboat to speed across the water, a bird with wings that flap up and down… and imagine yourself on a journey through the Florida Everglades. This unique and fragile ecosystem is the only sub - tropical preserve in North America, and students will hear what makes it such a special place. On our Bricks 4 Kidz “tour” of the Everglades you get to learn so much…without all the mosquito bites! You’ll even learn why mosquitos are actually “V.I.P.s “(very important pests). Shrink yourself down to mini-figure size and climb aboard our LEGO airboat tour through the Florida Everglades! We’ll build and learn about some of the cool creatures in one of our country’s largest national parks.

3. Sports Spectacular(K-5th) Explore sports ranging from gymnastics to biking, mini-golf to airplane acrobatics! This unit is a great way to get “sporty” kids building and get LEGO® fans interested in sports. Some lessons focus on the importance of physical fitness and different aspects of fitness, such as stamina and strength. Other lessons describe the mechanics of the sport, such as the physics involved in golf and the components of a stationary bike. But the best part for the students is the way the models move and the fun they have playing with them after they’re built - hitting a plastic golf ball with the mini - golf model, watching the gymnast spin around the bar and seeing the tiny airplanes spin around and around on the air show model.

Maybe they’ll be inspired to try a new sport, or build a model of their favorite sport!
